Project Management
Southwest has a cadre of signal personnel trained in project management techniques with extensive experience in their application to engineering and construction projects. These project managers coordinate efforts of every phase of a project, helping to unify the efforts of the customers, contractors, and subcontractors into one seamless process. In addition, Southwest project managers coordinate the efforts of the surveying and estimating departments. The project manager compiles the costs for each department associated with the entire project, then prepares cost analysis and benefit statements so that the project may be approved. After project approval, the project manager helps coordinate the final design and sets timeline objectives for each phase of the project. The project manager is involved with design, distribution, construction, and installation in order to ensure quality throughout the entire project.
Cactus
Cactus is a custom information management system that we provide to our customers. This secure web-based system allows our customers access to accurate, timely, and complete information 24/7. We employ the most current technological storage capabilities in order to offer state-of-the-art software archival and database management services. Cactus provides many services, including Software Configuration Management and Design Standards Management.
Software Configuration Management
FRA regulations will soon require all Class 1 railroads to define and catalog microprocessor-based signal system equipment and associated software. Southwest leads the way in the design of our Internet database system that not only satisfies this requirement, but also provides real benefits to our clients. Besides cataloging the appropriate information, the system permits our railroad clients to quickly troubleshoot problem locations, perform research functions any time of day, and replace failed program chips without delay. This allows an immediate recovery of lost software programs needed to put control points and signals back into service with minimum down time.
Design Standards Management
Southwest creates and manages design and program templates. We also help develop and manage engineering standards for our clients. These templates are available through a secure, password protected website.
